General Information

Since the medium of instruction is either 30% or 100% English in their faculties at ITU, students should have adequate knowledge of English, and they are tested with proficiency exams organized by ITU SFL. After achieving the required score in the ITU SFL Proficiency Exam, students have the right to study at their departments. The main goal of the proficiency courses offered by the Continuing Education Center (CEC) is to prepare students for the ITU Proficiency Exam so that they can prove their proficiency in English to start their departments. The courses also aim to increase students’ level of English expected for undergraduate and graduate studies.

Aims and Objectives

Proficiency courses offered by CEC mainly focus on listening, reading and writing skills as well as vocabulary and grammar. The courses cover all parts of the proficiency exam in detail. They also provide some information and advice for the exam, supporting students with sample questions from previous proficiency exams.

Course Requirements

Proficiency courses are for those who are pursuing both their B.A and M.A degrees at ITU. Students studying at the ITU SFL Preparatory Program cannot be registered for the courses offered by the Continuing Education Center (CEC).

Placement Policy

A placement test designed by ITU SFL staff is given to the students before the courses begin. Those who can prove their level of English (minimum B1) can register for the courses.
